THE PUZZLE
Second Public Retail Market is an important construction in Taichung during the Japanese Colonial Period. Due to additional and illegal constructions covering the central hexagonal tower, the second market has become messier and more disordered than before. There are also many popular diners replace the original raw food vendors.As a Taichung native, I have visited markets for countless times, but being unable to put them together to the complete appearance. With this project, the market space has been reorganized and the art gallery function has been added, so that relationship of complete space can be assembled after a stroll. After the problems of multiple nodes, dense flow of people, and blocked entrances be solved, the current idle space is released. The quality of the dining and public space on the first floor is improved, and each popular spot (landmark) is connected in visual, so that people can see the target vendor directly. The opening on the second floor is used to display the surrounding or internal landmarks. People outside can distinguish where they are by the shape of the opening. After visiting the first and second floors, people can complete the puzzle of the second market on the roof.
